Joe Conte - Traveler, Documentarian This site is dedicated to 'Le Festival au Desert' the most remote festival in the World, and a very special festival. "The Festival in the Desert holds a very special place in my heart as I have traveled there since 2010 for the past 3 years until its recent exile in 2013. In August of 2009, my Love, my Light and my Life, Negrita Jayde, was taken from me tragically by cervical cancer. One year prior to her loss, my Father lost his battle to lung cancer. These personal losses forced me to take a step back and see the value of the life we lead, the importance of being conscious, and the intrinsic value and potential that comes from our conscious decisions. Above all, the 'greater universal connection' that our action can foster - through creating an environmental and social awareness and for bettering the lives of others - is pivotal to our lives as conscious, compassionate beings. I traveled to Mali in search of my soul in December of 2009, after my tragic losses. It was here that I lived with the Tuareg people, on the outskirts of Timbuktu. I learned their ways, attended cultural meetings and the Festival au Desert,' it was then that I began to understand what life in the desert is all about. Mother Africa, Mali, and her people, have inspired me to become the person I am Today. Her people, especially the Tuareg, consistently inspire me with their strength and composure in the face of adversity, and remind me to be a better human being, and inspire me to be the person I hope to be. It is because of them that we started the non-profit SOULNOW.ORG. Save Our Universal Language NOW. It is our hope that through our non profit we will be able help these amazing people, and continue to preserve their musical heritage, by supporting 'Le Festival au Desert,' for years to come " - Joe Conte As a multi-media professional for the past seventeen years, Joe Conte has traveled throughout the World with his production company OLA.TV that focuses on video production for music and travel.
